| John at Intense Performance has some really cool intake/ performance products. They look great too. Were running the cold air canister/ filter set-up on our Jeep Cherokee in conjunction with an ARB snorkel. The combo works great and looks cool too. (See below) The upper left photo is the spun aluminum, cerami-coated canister with a big mouth filter. The center photo shows this set-up mounted on a Dodge. Way cool! The right photo shows the Big Mouth filter with it's unique funnel shaped filtering media in the end. These filters are the way to go, even on a simple open airtube set-up. | Intense Performance Cold Air Canister w/ Safari Snorkel |
| Here is an Intense Performance cold air
canister with a 5" big mouth filter inside. I used this to
replace the stock airbox. It is hooked up to a Safari Snorkel on my
'97Jeep Cherokee. John at Intense Performance says the 5" filter
will feed a 600hp engine.
One added benefit is that I no longer have to run premium gas. My Jeep would ping badly on regular unleaded gas. Now with the snorkel feeding fresh, outside air to the engine, my pinging is gone and I can run regular gas again. Getting the air intake out of the hot engine compartment makes all the difference! |
| Here you can see the intake
hose routed through the inner fender. Safari says to route it through
the bottom, in front of the stock airbox. This leaves a portion of the
hose exposed in the wheelwell. With big, lumpy tires and lots of
suspension articulation, many of us don't like that idea. With this
set-up, there is no hose in the fenderwell.
I had to move the CPU back a little to make room for the hose to come through. Very easy to do. Just don't use the screws that came out of there. They are sharp and could poke holes in the intake hose. I used round head machine screws and nutted them on the inside. A few PVC fittings, a little cutting, and a short piece of flex hose and it's all together. I fabbed a little support bracket with a rubber cradle to hold the assembly and used a big zip tie to hold it all in place. This helps keep the entire assembly more solid. |

Many people have asked me "where did you put the washer bottle?" You must remove the factory washer bottle to route the snorkel hose. I used the mounting bracket supplied with my snorkel and mounted it where you see it. It fits nicely there, and I didn't have to extend the factory lines or wires. The instructions said to mount it on the passenger side by the brake power booster... the problem is that my jeep isn't right hand drive like they are in Australia, and the booster is on the drivers side! I believe the factory washer bottle could also be mounted in the passenger side fender with a little work.

| Here's our 97 Cherokee with
the Safari Snorkel installed. The snorkel is top quality, and really
works well with the Intense Performance cold air canister set-up.
Another aspect of the snorkel is that I get asked about it ALL the
time. A snorkel is a real head turner on top of all the
performance and protection it provides. Lot's of people want to see
under the hood and the oohs and aaahs continue on when they see that
nice aluminum canister in there. Thanks John!
